  • Object recovery (8 foot depth)
  • Tread water in deep end for up to 90 seconds.
  • Entries into the water
  • Stroke evaluation – front crawl, back crawl, breast stroke and lifesaving kicks
Successful assessment candidates will be invited to attend a 15 week fast track course to complete the six certifications required to work as an instructor/lifeguard for the City of Waterloo. These include Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, Intermediate First Aid and CPR C, National Lifeguard and LSS/SWIM Instructors courses. Classes will run March 19 to June 26, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Tuesday and Thursdays. 100% attendance required.
Upon completion of the fast track courses, candidates may submit their resume to apply for an instructor/guard position. If selected, candidates participate in the skills screening process for a potential job in aquatics at the City of Waterloo, starting in September 2025. Successful hires will commit to working for 6 sessions (summer session off is an option).

Note: Program is open to those who have not previously participated.
