Description

Do you have an emergency plan in place for your pets? Emergencies can happen at any time, from a sudden personal crisis to a house fire or a large-scale community emergency. Having a plan for both you and your animals can make all the difference when the unexpected occurs, providing peace of mind and helping ensure their safety.

This presentation will explore how the BC SPCA supports animals and their families during emergencies, including emergency animal sheltering, response coordination, and resources available to individuals and communities before, during, and after a crisis.

Participants will learn practical steps to prepare for pets in unexpected situations, such as creating emergency kits, developing evacuation plans, maintaining identification and medication records, and arranging for temporary care if they become unable to care for their animals.

This session will be presented by Stephanie Quinn, Regional Community Services Facilitator for Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast. Stephanie brings extensive experience in emergency preparedness, including workplace training, participation in community preparedness initiatives, and family emergency planning. She is also a Registered Social Worker and is passionate about helping individuals and communities build resilience and prepare for emergencies. Stephanie shares her home with her family as well as her two dogs: Nica, an 8-year-old rescue, and Casper, a 5-year-old German Shepherd. She also has a 4-year-old rescue cat named Yoshi.
