Description

Explore the enchanting world of glasswork in this hands-on workshop with artist-instructor Wendy Emery. In this workshop, participants will design and create a unique fused glass suncatcher, perfect to hang in a light-filled window or as a decorative accent on a wall. A wide assortment of colourful sheet glass, frit, stringers, and decorative pieces will be available, allowing you to bring your creative vision to life. You’ll learn how to safely handle glass, use basic glass-cutting tools, and prepare your piece for kiln firing offsite by the instructor. No previous experience required, just curiosity and creativity! Samples and patterns will be available for reference, and participants are encouraged to bring sketches or photos for inspiration. Each participant will complete a kiln-ready fused glass piece, which will be fired offsite and ready for pick-up at the Richmond Hill Cultural Centre after the workshop. All tools and materials provided upon payment of $15.00 Materials Fee to instructor at workshop.

Meet Your Instructor
Glass is Wendy Emery’s passion. Magical, reflective, brilliant and colourful. For Wendy it is a material of endless contradictions: solid yet appearing liquid, textural or smooth, delicate yet strong. She works with a variety of glass elements -sheet glass, glass paint, powders, stringers and globs, cutting, assembling then fusing and shaping glass with the heat of the kiln. The outcome is never entirely predictable; heating glass to high temperatures often leads to unexpected transformations. Each of her pieces becomes a dialogue between structure and surrender - the intentions she brings and the natural forces that complete the work. Through her glass art she strives to capture fleeting moments of light, motion and transformation, turning each piece into a lasting reflection of the natural world.
