You’re invited to experience the charms of a Victorian picnic at Billings Estate National Historic Site. Explore the grounds, gardens and exhibitions at Ottawa’s oldest wood-frame house. Enjoy live music. Learn the secret language of fans. Dress to impress in your 19th century best and pose for a photo memento inspired by a carte-de-visite. Try your hand at plein air art or challenge a friend to a traditional parlour or lawn game. Divine what the fates have in store for you with a tasseomancy demonstration.
Registration includes a boxed lunch (bread, cheese, pickles, fruits/vegetables, compound butter, charcuterie meats, dessert) and beverages inspired by Victorian-era picnic menus. Substitutions (vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, or dairy-free) must be requested in advance. Picnic blankets, tables and chairs are provided.
