Description
Swim Lesson Dates: August 3, August 4, August 5, August 6, August 7, August 10, August 11, August 12, August 13, August 14
Participants will learn to feel comfortable entering open‑water environments while building foundational water‑confidence skills appropriate for young swimmers. Parents are welcome to participate until their child is ready to participate independently. Preschoolers will practice safely getting in and out of the water, jumping into chest‑deep water with assistance, and progressing to independent jumps and sideways entries while wearing a lifejacket. Children will explore early underwater comfort skills such as getting their faces wet, blowing bubbles, submerging, and opening their eyes underwater. They will develop body control through floating and gliding on their front and back, kicking and gliding with and without a lifejacket, and recovering objects from shallow water. As they advance, they will build confidence performing short swims on their front, gliding and kicking on their side, practicing whip kick, attempting forward rolls in a lifejacket, and treading water for up to 10 seconds.
For children 3–5 years. If the participant is out of the age range online, please email beaches@halifax.ca to see if accommodation is possible.
Please be aware that swim lessons may be delayed, relocated, or cancelled with minimal notice due to water quality testing or inclement weather. To ensure you receive timely updates, please verify that the contact information on the registrant’s account is accurate and up to date.
