Description
This beginner course introduces the fundamentals of hand-building and wheel-thrown pottery. Through weekly demonstrations, students will learn the essentials of centering, throwing and trimming. Using the elementary form of the cylinder, students will learn how to throw and trim bowls, cups and vases as well as larger cylindrical forms. Students will also be introduced to handle making and various forms of surface decoration using slips, under glazes and glazes. Participants will receive approx. 5kg of reclaimed earthenware clay (cone 06). Through weekly skill building projects and handouts, students will develop a historical and contemporary reference to thrown forms, styles, methods and surface treatments. Please bring a cloth or rag, and wear an apron or clothes you don't mind getting messy to class. Please note refunds are not issued 1-week prior to classes starting. Instructor Micaila
