By the end of the Lifesaving Society Swim and Lifesaving Instructors course, participants must have completed a minimum of 12 volunteer hours assisting a swim instructor. Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age. While it is recommended these hours be completed after finishing the Assistant Instructor course, they can also be started after obtaining the Bronze Cross award. Volunteer swim instructors are required to commit to the entire session from start to finish to gain the most benefit. Consistent involvement is crucial – sporadic participation will not be permitted. This ensures volunteers can build stronger relationships with their students, maintain continuity in their teaching and fully experience the whole process.
