Description
This hands-on fibre arts course explores crochet and textile fundamentals through the creation of granny squares, which are small, modular crocheted pieces that can be joined together to form garments, accessories, and functional objects. Traditionally simple in structure, granny squares also offer endless possibilities for variation, embellishment, and technical complexity.
Each week, students will create a granny-square–based garment or trinket while learning new techniques, with options to follow classic patterns or explore more advanced constructions involving texture, colorwork, and sculptural detail. Projects may include hats, bags, accessories, and larger pieces such as sweaters.
The course emphasizes skill-building through repetition, experimentation, and personal expression. Students may choose their level of difficulty, making the class accessible to beginners while offering meaningful challenges for experienced fibre artists. By the end of the course, participants will have a collection of finished pieces and a strong foundation in fibre techniques, along with an understanding of how small textile units can grow into expressive, wearable works.
