Description
For P.A. Day and Winter Break Camps, please register for the specific Inclusion Support program!
At the Municipality of Clarington, we're committed to making recreation programs safe, welcoming, and accessible. Our Inclusion Staff are here to support participants who may benefit from extra assistance to enjoy a successful experience in our camp programs.
Inclusion Staff can:
- Adapt program activities and instructions
- Help redirect participants to ensure safety
- Offer sensory and emotional breaks as needed
- Provide assistance with activities of daily living and personal care
Our staff receive training in program adaptations, behaviour management, and emotional regulation strategies. Please note that they are typically students and do not offer the same level of support as educational assistants or behaviour therapists. Inclusion Staff do not provide medical, therapeutic, or one-to-one behavioural support. If our Inclusion Staff are unable to meet your participant's needs, an external support worker will be required.
If a participant demonstrates challenging behaviour, staff will work to support the child and to minimize the behaviour using behaviour management strategies. If a participant's behaviour threatens their own immediate safety, the safety of other's, or is having a significant impact on our programming, their emergency contact(s) will be notified and may be requested to pick their child up. Please be aware that all requests for a child to be picked up must be fulfilled within one hour.
To access inclusion support in our camps, you must be registered in the appropriate Inclusion Support Camp activity and:
- Submit an Inclusion Support Request Form (if you already have a request form on file, our team will reach out to you to confirm whether or not an updated request form is needed)
- Email inclusionservices@clarington.net if there are any changes to your registration or request. Please note that changes may not be able to be accommodated, so it is important that you reach out as soon as possible.
Our staff will review your request and confirm via email if support is available, and provide you with any next steps required to complete your support request.
If you are looking to attend a program with an External Support Worker, please email
inclusionservices@clarington.net and complete the External Support Worker Release Form.
