Screening & Discussion

Silents are golden! Enjoy two of the best films ever made by the cinema's first superstar. The Adventurer is a 25-minute comedy in which Charlie plays an escaped convict. In fleeing from his pursuers, Charlie saves two members of a wealthy family from drowning and is taken in as a houseguest. When his true identity is revealed, a wonderful chase throughout the house ensues. City Lights is considered Chaplin's masterpiece. A blind flower girl mistakes his tramp character for a millionaire as he tries to earn money for an operation to restore her sight. Have tissues ready! Its tear-jerking ending is a classic. Critic James Agee wrote it was the "greatest single piece of acting ever committed to celluloid." (Length: 87 minutes)
