Description
This course provides an introduction to the basics of glaze theory. Over six weeks, the course will explore glaze chemistry through lectures, demonstrations, and lab work under the guidance of ceramic artist Mitra Mahmoodi. Although the focus will be on cone 6 glazes, the principles learned can be applied to all firing temperatures. Participants will learn to mix test batches, create formulas, line blend, and fire glazes daily. By mapping results on the Stull chart, participants will gain insights into manipulating glaze chemistry to develop new glazes. Additionally, the course will address common glaze defects and their solutions. Topics such as the ceramic periodic table, using the Stull map, working with glazy.org, and finding and adjusting a true cone 6 glaze to suit your preferences will also be covered. This activity is not suitable for beginners. Clay included in course fee. All registrants must bring their own N95 mask or respirator to the start of class. No class May 16. No refunds after April 3.
