Description

Participants will become familiar with the pottery studio environment as they work with clay to learn hand-building (clayworks) techniques such as pinching, coiling, and slab construction. These hand-built pieces will be glazed and fired in the kiln before participants take them home. Participants will also be introduced to the pottery wheel, learning how to wedge clay for the wheel, throwing, centring, and practicing the creation of cylindrical pieces. Take home pieces will not be made during the wheel-portion as the focus will be on learning the wheel-based techniques. Due to the duration length of this program, participants under ten (10) years of age do not need to be accompanied in the program. However, parents/guardians are expected to remain at the program location for its duration in the event their immediate assistance is required.
