Description

This is a combined Swimmer 8 and Swimmer 9 class.

Swimmer 8: This 1 hour class (with a class ratio of 10:1) builds strong swimming and lifesaving skills through 75 meter swims of each stroke, a 200 meter timed swim, and a 100 meter fitness medley. Participants develop proficiency in lifesaving sport techniques, including a lifesaving medley, timed object support, and rescue using a buoyant aid. First aid instruction focuses on assessing unconscious victims, treating shock, and managing obstructed airways. Through skill drills and simulated rescues, swimmers strengthen their foundation in water safety and non-contact rescue.

Swimmer 9: This 1 hour class (with a class ratio of 10:1) challenges swimmers with 600-meter endurance workouts, a 300-meter timed swim completed in nine minutes or less, and a 25-meter object carry (10 lbs). Stroke technique is refined through 100-meter swims, while water rescue skills focus on defense methods, victim removals, and supporting a victim face-up in shallow water. Participants also complete a 20-metre rescue using a towing aid. First aid instruction emphasizes the treatment of bone and joint injuries, as well as managing respiratory emergencies such as asthma and allergic reactions.
